School feeding reaches 2.6 million learners
The national school meals programme expanded from 2.25 million learners in 2022 to 2.6 million, keeping children in class in the most food-insecure parts of the country.

A hungry child does not learn. In arid and semi-arid counties and in urban informal settlements, a school meal is often the deciding factor between attendance and dropping out.
The programme grew from 2.25 million learners in 2022 to 2.6 million in 2025, with the ambition of reaching 10 million children. Meals are increasingly sourced from local farmers, so the programme feeds children and pays farmers in the same transaction.
